Day 8 – The Twelve Days of Thanksgiving

Day 8 – I’m thankful for my family.

Just a quick post today, as I continue to recuperate from this cold. In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that my family and friends were instrumental in my recovery from Binge-Eating Disorder. So today I wanted to thank the members of my family, some of whom are no longer alive.

Mom, thank you for continuing to reach out to me with phone calls and emails even when the voice of my eating disorder was telling me to isolate from everyone I loved. I’m sorry for being mean to you at times or acting like I didn’t need your love. I probably needed it more then than ever. You knew that. And you loved me still. Thank you for meeting me at Panera Bread one afternoon and giving me a copy of the book, “Overcoming Binge Eating” by Christopher Fairburn. Reading that book allowed me to see that what I was struggling with was a real disorder and that it could be overcome by taking certain steps.

Dad, thank you so much for sharing your own struggles with me by letting me interview you for my book. Thank you for encouraging me each and every day to get and stay out of B.E.D. Thank you for reminding me to use my recovery tools when I slip up and for your positive attitude about everything in life.

Colin, thank you for standing quietly beside me as I struggled to get out of B.E.D. Just knowing that you were there with me on that journey was a huge support. And thank you for sharing with me some of your own difficulties with overeating. Together, we’ve been able to return our focus to physical health.

Grammy, thank you for calling me “doll baby” and always making me feel so special and beautiful even when the critic in my head was telling me otherwise. I miss you but know you’re still watching out for me!

Aunt Kay, thank you for encouraging me as a small girl to start writing! It has led to a lifelong love of writing that has served me so well in my recovery.

Thank you to all my other family members living and deceased…I am so blessed to be surrounded by such love!

With gratitude,

Megan
