Healing Arts

Wow! It’s been a whole year since I wrote a blog post. It’s certainly not because everything has been peachy for the last year. In fact, I’ve had some significant body shame and negative self-talk off and on since early 2021 and just didn’t feel like writing about it, except in my journals. Tonight, though, I had an urge to share some of my photography and paintings from the past year — creative arts are one way for me to silence that inner critic. When I’m putting colors on canvas or trying to get a close-up of a bird or animal, my breathing slows, my mind focuses, and I feel connected to something (someOne) bigger than myself.

Island Beach State Park, New Jersey

Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, Pennsylvania

Tyler Arboretum, Pennsylvania

John Heinz Wildlife Refuge, Pennsylvania

2020 and 2021 Acryllic Paintings (often inspired by YouTube videos!)

What kind of healing arts help you when body shame, the inner critic, or the voice of “E.D.” start talking?

Peace,

Megan
